Dickerman & Associates has been delivering first-rate services in Southern California since 1990. Principal attorney William Dickerman has been awarded the legal profession’s highest recognition for both legal competence and ethical conduct: the coveted Martindale-Hubbell “AV” rating. The “A” rating is for legal ability and takes into consideration experience, nature of practice, and qualifications; it places Mr. Dickerman in the “very high” to “preeminent” class. The “V” rating is for general ethical standards. Nothing is more important to Dickerman & Associates than having our clients feel secure in entrusting us with their important concerns. We pledge to do everything to justify your trust.

Whether you are general corporate counsel, a Fortune 500 company, a small business, or an individual, we want you to be able to sleep well, knowing that Dickerman & Associates is hard at work to get you the best possible result at a very reasonable cost.

At Dickerman & Associates we emphasize working closely with our clients, because no one knows your business and your goals as well as you do. We communicate regularly with our clients and seek their continuing input, treating them with the regard and respect to which they are entitled. Many of our clients come to us to escape their attorneys, who can’t be bothered to communicate or return calls, and then present outrageous invoices. Dickerman & Associates promptly returns calls and responds to emails. You will never need to wonder about the status of your case.

This is one factor that accounts for the many fine long-term relationships that Dickerman & Associates has developed with our clients. We strive to ensure that our clients achieve their legal goals in the most cost-effective manner possible: We don’t want our clients to fight the good fight into bankruptcy. Here is what one appreciative long-time client has to say about the attention we pay to efficient case resolution:

"I have many friends and business acquaintances who are attorneys, but I always tell people who need legal representation to call Dickerman & Associates first. The reason is simple. For the several legal matters they've handled for me over the years, I've always been impressed by their ability to apply their legal expertise in a practical, efficient manner, bringing issues to a speedy conclusion with a minimal of hassle and expense.

- B. Usen, President/CEO

Dickerman & Associates provides you with the information you need to make a wise decision regarding the best way to proceed: We will give you a clear sense of the potential outcomes of your case. If we believe it isn't worth pursuing, we will not hesitate to say so. We will provide you the option of negotiation, mediation, or litigation, explaining the benefits and risks of each. We will give you a cost-benefit analysis of each option so you understand the possible financial impact of your actions. To achieve the best possible result in a legal matter, we must let the opposition know that your lawyer will aggressively and effectively represent you.

If you wish to litigate against serious opposition, you need an experienced and aggressive litigator with results to back you up. Otherwise, your opposition will not give your case the respect it deserves. Whether we at Dickerman & Associates achieve your goals through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or trial depends on the specifics of your case, your litigation objectives, and such practical considerations as time and expense. No matter what litigation strategy is best suited to your situation, we commit to your position and see it through to the end. Relatively few cases need to go to trial: but sound strategy and preparation promote excellent results through negotiated settlements or such alternative dispute resolution techniques as mediation and arbitration.

Our firm is unusual in that we will accept appropriate business and personal litigation matters on a contingency fee basis. Sensitive to clients’ concerns about the high cost of lawsuits, we try to enable every client to afford access to the legal system.

William Dickerman was transplanted from New York to Los Angeles at a young age. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in History in 1973. He delayed his law school attendance for a year while he got valuable work experience as a flight steward for Pan American World Airways (“Pan Am”), volunteered on the staff of a U.S. congressman, and travelled in Asia.

Mr. Dickerman then attended the University of Southern California Law Center, serving on the prestigious Law Review and as student Director and Prosecutor in the university-wide judicial system. Upon graduating with a J.D. degree in 1977, Mr. Dickerman accepted the coveted position of Judicial Law Clerk to U.S. District Judge Howard B. Turrentine. After that one-year appointment, Mr. Dickerman travelled extensively, then began his practice of law in earnest.

His first job was as an associate at the boutique firm Leopold, Petrich & Smith, where he got solid grounding in litigation involving literary properties, television, and movies. He then worked at Gelfand & Hinojosa, where he obtained trial and general litigation experience in a broad array of business, commercial, real estate, and other disputes. Mr. Dickerman’s final move, before opening his own firm, was to Antin, Magasinn, Stern, Litz & Grebow, where he broadened his civil litigation experience.

In 1990, Mr. Dickerman formed Dickerman & Associates in order to deliver exceptional services at a reasonable cost, and to exceed clients’ expectations regarding personal integrity, trust, and communications. If the number of long-term clients, client referrals, and testimonials he has received is any indication, the firm has been meeting its goals.

Public service has always been one of Mr. Dickerman’s key concerns. He has served the community as a Small Claims Court judge; an arbitrator in civil and attorney fees disputes; a court mediator in landlord/tenant cases; a lecturer in Continuing Legal Education; a board member of the State Bar’s California Young Lawyers Association; a member of a State Bar executive committee; and a Moot Court judge for law schools.

Mr. Dickerman lives with his wife and children in Los Angeles. His interests include reading history and biography; hiking and camping; many outdoor sports; and classical and bluegrass music.
